Is A Lower Dose Of NexGard Safe For Your Dog?

Introduction:

NexGard is a popular medication used to treat and prevent flea and tick infestations in dogs. It contains the active ingredient Afoxolaner, which works by affecting the nervous system of fleas and ticks, killing them within 24 hours of exposure. Although NexGard is generally considered safe for most dogs, it's important to follow the recommended dosage instructions to avoid any adverse reactions. This article will explore the safety of giving your dog a lower dose of NexGard and whether it's an effective treatment option.

Why Adjust The Dose Of NexGard?

There are several reasons why a dog owner might consider adjusting the dose of NexGard, including:

  • Cost: NexGard can be expensive, and adjusting the dose can help make it more affordable.
  • Size: NexGard is available in different sizes based on the dog's weight, and some owners may believe that their dog needs less medication than what is recommended for their size.
  • Concerns about side effects: Some dog owners may be concerned about the potential side effects of NexGard, such as loss of appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea, and may want to give their dogs a lower dose to minimize these risks.

Is A Lower Dose Of NexGard Effective?

The effectiveness of NexGard is directly related to the dose. Therefore, a lower dose may not be as effective in preventing flea and tick infestations, and your dog may still be at risk for exposure to these pests. Additionally, a lower dose may not provide long-lasting protection, and you may need to give your dog additional doses more frequently.

Is A Lower Dose Of NexGard Safe?

The safety of a lower dose of NexGard is not well-studied, and there needs to be research to support the use of lower doses. However, giving your dog a lower dose of NexGard may increase the risk of adverse reactions, as the medication may not be as effective in controlling fleas and ticks, leading to higher levels of exposure. Additionally, some dogs may be more sensitive to the active ingredient in NexGard and may experience more severe side effects at lower doses.

What Should You Do If You Want To Adjust The Dose Of NexGard?

If you're considering adjusting the dose of NexGard, it's important to speak with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can help you determine the appropriate dose based on your dog's size, health, and exposure to fleas and ticks. They can also guide how to use NexGard safely and effectively and help you identify potential risks or side effects.

Conclusion:

NexGard is an effective medication for treating and preventing flea and tick infestations in dogs, but it's important to follow the recommended dose instructions to avoid any adverse reactions. While a lower dose of NexGard may seem like a good idea for cost or safety reasons, there needs to be research to support the use of lower doses, and it may not be as effective in controlling fleas and ticks. Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

After Seresto collars failed to get rid of fleas, I didn't know where to turn. I saw a post on a page I follow (Kentucky Kitty Cats) saying that they use Nexgard Combo for the cats they shelter. I decided to try it and IT WORKS!

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
