Flea And Tick Prevention For Dogs

Introduction:

Fleas and ticks can be a major issue for dogs, causing discomfort, skin irritations, and even transmitting diseases. These tiny pests are not only annoying, but they can also pose a severe threat to your pet's health. Fortunately, many flea and tick prevention products can help protect your dog from these pests. In this article, we will discuss what flea and tick preventatives are, why they are important, and what kind of products are available to help you keep your dog safe.

Why Are Flea And Tick Preventatives Important, And What Are They?

Flea and tick preventatives are products designed to protect your dog from fleas and ticks. They come in different forms, including collars, sprays, shampoos, and oral medications. These products aim to prevent fleas and ticks from biting your dog, laying eggs, and reproducing. By doing so, flea and tick preventatives help reduce the risk of your dog becoming infected with diseases transmitted by these pests, such as Lyme disease and tapeworms.

What Kind Of Products Are Available?

Many different types of flea and tick preventatives are available, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here are all Flea and Ticks medicine. Some of the most common types of products include:

  • Collars: Flea and tick collars contain a slow-release insecticide absorbed into your dog's skin and hair. These collars are effective at repelling fleas and ticks, but they may not be as effective at killing these pests once they have bitten your dog.
    1. Seresto Collar
  • Sprays: Flea and tick sprays are topical treatments applied directly to your dog's skin. They kill fleas and ticks on contact and repel new ones from biting your dog.
  • Shampoos: Flea and tick shampoos are good for dogs with sensitive skin. These shampoos work by killing fleas and ticks on contact and washing away their eggs and larvae.
  • Oral medications: Flea and tick oral medications are taken by your dog orally and work by killing fleas and ticks from the inside out. These medications are effective, but they may take longer to take effect than other types of flea and tick preventatives. We carry multiple ranges of Flea and tick medicine as below:
    1. Bravecto Chew
    2. Capstar
    3. Nexgard
    4. Negard Spectra
    5. Simparica
    6. Simparica Trio
  • Spot-On (Topical): Spot-on is famous as it is less messy and easy to give your dog.
    1. Advantage
    2. Advantix
    3. Advocate (Advantage Multi)
    4. Bravecto Spot-On
    5. Frontline Plus
    6. Vectra 3D

Does One Product Work Better Than Another?

The effectiveness of flea and tick preventatives can vary depending on several factors, including the type of product, your dog's age, weight, overall health, and the severity of the flea and tick infestation. In general, collars and sprays tend to be more effective at repelling fleas and ticks, while oral medications are more effective at killing these pests once they have bitten your dog.

Do We Need To Use Flea And Tick Prevention In The Winter?

While fleas and ticks are less active in the winter, they can still be a problem for dogs in some areas. In areas with mild winters, fleas, and ticks can remain active all year round, so it is important to continue using flea and tick preventatives even during the winter months.

Can My Dog Bathe Or Swim With Flea And Tick Prevention?

Most flea and tick preventatives are waterproof, so your dog can swim or bathe without affecting the product's effectiveness. However, it is important always to follow the instructions on the product label and to reapply the product as recommended to ensure its continued effectiveness.

Are Flea And Tick Preventives Safe?

Flea and tick preventives are generally safe for dogs when used as directed. However, it is important always to follow the instructions on the product label and to consult with your veterinarian before using a new flea and tick preventive, especially if your dog has any underlying health conditions. Additionally, taking care of your dog's age, weight, and overall health is important when choosing a flea and tick preventive, as some products may not be suitable for certain dogs.

Can My Lactating Or Pregnant Dog Be Given Flea And Tick Preventatives?

The safety of flea and tick preventatives for pregnant or lactating dogs can vary depending on the specific product. Therefore, it is always best to consult your veterinarian before using any flea and tick preventive on a pregnant or lactating dog. Your vet can advise you on the best course of action based on your dog's individual needs and circumstances.

Conclusion:

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

After Seresto collars failed to get rid of fleas, I didn't know where to turn. I saw a post on a page I follow (Kentucky Kitty Cats) saying that they use Nexgard Combo for the cats they shelter. I decided to try it and IT WORKS!

Customer photo review of Revolution Plus For Medium Cats 5.6-11 lbs (2.6-5kg)

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
