Do Fleas Die In The Winter?

Do Fleas Die in the Winter?

Fleas are tiny pests that can cause a lot of discomfort and irritation to both pets and humans. These blood-sucking parasites are known to thrive in warm and humid conditions, which begs the question, do fleas die in the winter? In this blog post, we will explore the winter survival of fleas and offer tips on how to control them.

Winter Survival Of Fleas

Fleas are ectoparasites that depend on a host for survival. They typically infest pets like cats and dogs but can also feed on humans. Fleas have a life cycle that consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adult fleas lay their eggs on the host animal, which then fall into the environment, such as carpets, furniture, and bedding.

During the winter months, fleas face a number of challenges that can affect their survival. For instance, cold temperatures can slow down their metabolism and reproduction, leading to a decrease in their activity levels. Additionally, the low humidity levels in the air can cause dehydration, which can be fatal to fleas.

Despite these challenges, fleas can still survive during the winter months. For instance, if they live indoors, they can find warm and humid hiding spots, such as carpets, bedding, and furniture. Additionally, fleas can infest wild animals, such as rodents, spreading the fleas to other animals or humans.

How Do Cats And Dogs Get Fleas In Winter?

Dogs and Cats can get fleas in the winter in a number of ways. For instance, if they spend time outdoors, they can come into contact with wild animals that are carrying fleas. Additionally, fleas can survive indoors in warm and humid spots, such as in carpets, bedding, and furniture. If your pet has fleas, they can also spread the fleas to other pets in the home.

How To Get Rid Of Fleas In winter

Getting rid of fleas in the winter requires a multi-step approach. First, you need to treat your pets with flea treatments to kill adult fleas and prevent new infestations. Next, you need to vacuum your home frequently to remove flea eggs, pupae and larvae from carpets, furniture, and bedding. You may also need to use flea control products, such as sprays, foggers, or powders, to eliminate the infestation. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully and take safety precautions.

Stop Fleas Year-Round With Plant-Powered Wondercide

Wondercide is a plant-powered flea and tick control solution that can help to prevent infestations year-round. Their products are made with natural ingredients, such as cedar oil and peppermint oil, that are safe for pets and humans. Wondercide offers a range of products, including sprays, shampoos, and wipes, that can be used on pets and in the home. By using Wondercide regularly, you can help to prevent flea infestations and keep your home and pets safe from harmful chemicals.

Tips On How To Control Fleas

  1. Vacuum Frequently: Vacuuming your home frequently can help to remove flea eggs, pupae and larvae from your carpets, furniture, and bedding. Be sure to vacuum under furniture and in hard-to-reach areas.
  2. Wash Bedding: Wash your pet's bedding frequently in hot water to kill any eggs or fleas that may be hiding in the fabric.
  3. Use Flea Treatments: Use flea treatments on your pets, such as spot-on treatments or flea collars, to kill adult fleas and prevent new infestations. Follow the instructions carefully and consult your veterinarian for any questions or concerns.
  4. Treat Your Home: If you have a flea infestation, you may need to use flea control products, such as sprays, foggers, or powders. Follow the instructions carefully and take safety precautions, such as wearing gloves and a mask.
  5. Seek Professional Help: If you cannot control a flea infestation on your own, consider seeking the help of a pest control professional. They can offer advice on how to control fleas and may use more powerful treatments that can effectively eliminate the infestation.

In conclusion, fleas can survive during winter, especially if they live indoors or on wild animals. However, by understanding their winter survival and following the tips outlined in this blog post, you can effectively control fleas and prevent infestations in your home and on your pets. Consult with your veterinarian or a pest control professional if you have any concerns or questions .

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
