What is Simparica?
Simparica is a powerful oral chewable tablet designed to protect dogs from fleas and specific types of ticks. Its active ingredient, sarolaner, effectively kills and prevents infestations of common tick species, including the Gulf Coast, American dog, black-legged, lone star, and brown dog ticks.
Approved for dogs and puppies over 6 months old and weighing more than 2.8 pounds, Simparica offers reliable, long-lasting protection with just one dose a month.
In addition to controlling fleas and ticks, Simparica is sometimes prescribed by veterinarians for off-label uses, such as treating demodectic mange, sarcoptic mange, and ear mites in dogs. Off-label use means the medication is used differently from the instructions on its label, which is common in veterinary care. Your veterinarian will assess your dog's needs to determine if Simparica is the right choice.
Simparica is a trusted solution that supports your dog's health and well-being for effective, veterinarian-approved flea and tick prevention.
What is Simparica Trio?
Simparica Trio is an advanced oral chewable tablet formulated to provide comprehensive dog protection. It contains three active ingredients: sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel. This powerful combination prevents heartworm disease, eliminates flea infestations, controls and treats tick infestations and addresses common intestinal parasites like roundworms and hookworms.
Simparica Trio is safe for dogs and puppies over 8 weeks old and weighs more than 2.8 pounds. With just one monthly dose, it offers broad-spectrum parasite protection, ensuring your dog's health and well-being.
Veterinarians often recommend Simparica Trio for its convenience and effectiveness in managing multiple threats with a single, easy-to-administer tablet. Always consult your veterinarian to determine if Simparica Trio suits your dog.
How Simparica and Simparica Trio Work
Simparica contains sarolaner, an active ingredient from the isoxazoline class, which targets fleas and ticks. When fleas and ticks bite your dog, they ingest sarolaner, which disrupts their nervous system, causing paralysis and death. This fast-acting medication begins working within hours after administration and should be dosed based on your dog's weight. Regularly weighing your dog ensures the correct dosage for optimal protection.
Simparica Trio offers even broader protection with two additional active ingredients:
- Moxidectin Targets heartworms, roundworms, and hookworms by disrupting the worms' nervous system, causing paralysis and death.
- Pyrantel: Specifically treats gastrointestinal parasites like roundworms and hookworms. It paralyzes the worms, allowing them to be expelled naturally through your dog's feces.
Simparica and Simparica Trio Dosage Instructions
Administer Simparica or Simparica Trio as directed on the product label or by your veterinarian. Both medications are given orally once a month, with or without food.
Missed a Dose?
If you forget to give a dose, contact your veterinarian for guidance. You can administer the missed dose as soon as you remember and continue with the regular monthly schedule. Do not double the dose. If a significant gap has occurred, you may notice a temporary return of fleas. For Simparica Trio, your veterinarian might recommend a heartworm test if a dose was missed for an extended period.
