Can Pets Still Get Fleas In Winter?

Although fleas typically prefer warm and humid conditions, they can still bother your pet in winter. Even though they might not be as active during colder months, fleas can still pose health risks for your dog or cat.

How Fleas Stay Alive In Winter

Fleas have a flexible life cycle, so they don't vanish entirely, even in cold weather. Winter slows down their growth instead of stopping it completely, so your pet can still pick up fleas during winter, just like any other season.

The warmth inside your home during winter can also attract fleas, bringing them in with you and your pets. This means not only your cat or dog can get infested but also your home, potentially leading to a full-blown flea infestation that is a nuisance and a health risk for your pets and family.

Many pet owners mistakenly believe fleas aren't active in winter, so they don't give their pets the proper flea prevention treatment, which can lead to flea problems during the colder months.

Keep Your Pet Safe From Fleas In Winter.

It's crucial to stick to your regular flea prevention routine in winter. Depending on whether you're treating dogs and puppies or cats and kittens, there are various methods. But generally, you have three options: oral treatmentstopical treatments, or collars. It's best to use these methods all year round.

Bravecto chew is a popular oral flea prevention for dogs (or Bravecto topical for cats). Both provide up to 12 weeks of protection, keeping new infestations at bay. Another option for dogs (including puppies from eight weeks old) is NexGard, which protects against fleas for 30 days.

For pets that won't take chews, like cats, you can use Revolution topical treatment, which guards against fleas for 30 days.

Consider the Seresto flea collar as another option for your pet. It offers safe and long-lasting flea protection for up to eight months.

Shield Your Home From Fleas In Winter.

Keeping up with flea prevention for your pet significantly reduces the chance of a flea invasion in your home during winter. However, it's still crucial to vacuum frequently to remove stray fleas and their eggs. Focus on areas where your pet spends time, like bedding, and don't forget to clean crevices and cracks in floors and walls.

Maintaining a short lawn and clearing plant debris in your yard also helps prevent fleas from settling outside.

If you have a flea problem in winter, make sure to treat both your home and yard while treating your pet to eliminate fleas effectively.

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

After Seresto collars failed to get rid of fleas, I didn't know where to turn. I saw a post on a page I follow (Kentucky Kitty Cats) saying that they use Nexgard Combo for the cats they shelter. I decided to try it and IT WORKS!

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
