(S)-Methoprene is a larvicide used to control fleas in cats & dogs. It does not kill fleas but will disrupt fleas' life cycle. It will prevent them from early stages before they develop into adult

Pets are an important part of many families, and ensuring their health and well-being is a top priority for pet owners. One way to keep pets healthy is through medication, and one ingredient commonly used in pet medications is (S)-methoprene. This blog post will explore the benefits of (S)-methoprene and how it is used in pet medications to keep our furry friends healthy and happy.

Medicine That Has The Ingredient (S)-Methoprene

(S)-Methoprene is an insect growth regulator commonly used in pet flea treatments. It works by mimicking the juvenile hormone found in insects, which prevents fleas from reaching maturity and reproducing.

Some examples of pet medications that contain (S)-methoprene include:

These medications might have different formulations and usage instructions depending on the manufacturer. Therefore, it's important to follow the instructions on the product label and consult a veterinarian before using any medication on your pet.

How Quickly Does (S)-Methoprene Start Working?

(S)-Methoprene, an insect growth regulator, starts working by mimicking the natural juvenile hormone in insects, causing them to be unable to mature or reproduce. The time it takes for (S)-Methoprene to start working depends on the specific product and method of application, as well as the stage of the flea life cycle. Generally, it is considered to be fast acting, meaning it starts working quickly. For example, when it is used in a spot-on flea treatment, it starts working immediately and protects your pet within 24 hours of application. However, it is important to note that (S)-Methoprene is not an adulticide, and it does not kill adult fleas; instead, it breaks the life cycle of these parasites by preventing their growth and development.

How (S)-Methoprene Is Given?

(S)-Methoprene is an insect growth regulator and is usually given as an ingredient in pet medications such as topical liquids, sprays, shampoos, and spot-on treatments. It is typically applied to the pet's skin, which is absorbed and distributed throughout the animal's body.

The specific application method will depend on the product being used. For example, spot-on treatments are applied to a small area of the pet's skin, usually on the back of the neck, and are absorbed into the bloodstream. Sprays and shampoos are applied directly to the pet's coat and massaged in, and topical liquids are applied to the skin using an applicator or pipette.

It's important to follow the instructions on the product label when using (S)-Methoprene, as the dosage and frequency of application may vary depending on the product, the pet's size, and the infestation's severity. It's also important to ensure that the product is appropriate for the species and age of the pet. Some products are unsafe for cats or puppies, for example.

It's also important to note that (S)-Methoprene is only available by prescription and should be used under the guidance of a veterinarian.

Are There Any Risk Elements For This Medication?

(S)-Methoprene is generally considered to be safe for use in pets when used as directed. However, as with any medication, some potential risks and side effects are associated with its use. Some of the most common side effects include skin irritation or itching at the application site, which can occur in some pets. These side effects are usually mild and disappear without treatment.

It's important to note that (S)-Methoprene is for external use only and should not be ingested. In case of accidental ingestion, it could cause stomach upset, vomiting, and diarrhea. If this happens, contact your veterinarian right away.

It's also important to use (S)-Methoprene products specifically formulated for use on pets and not to use products intended for use on humans or other animals.

Additionally, It's important to follow the instructions on the product label when using (S)-Methoprene and to use it under the guidance of a veterinarian. It's also important to ensure that the product is appropriate for the species and age of the pet and to read the product label for any specific precautions or warnings.

Furthermore, it is essential to note that (S)-Methoprene is not recommended for use in pets with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or excipients. It is also essential to avoid using (S)-Methoprene on pets that are pregnant, nursing, or breeding.

Is There Anything That Needs To Monitor With (S)-Methoprene?

(S)-Methoprene, when used as directed, is generally considered safe for use in pets. However, as with any medication, there are some things that should be monitored when using (S)-Methoprene.

It's important to monitor your pet for any signs of skin irritation or itching at the application site, which can occur in some pets. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences severe skin irritation or other side effects.

It's also important to monitor your pet for any signs of flea infestation after treatment with (S)-Methoprene, as the product is not an adulticide and does not kill adult fleas. Still, instead, it breaks the life cycle of these parasites by preventing their growth and development. If the infestation persists, it's important to consult with your veterinarian to determine the cause and the best course of action.

It's also essential to monitor the product's expiration date, and if it has expired, do not use it anymore.

It's also important to follow the instructions on the product label when using (S)-Methoprene and to use it under the guidance of a veterinarian. It's also important to ensure that the product is appropriate for the species and age of the pet and to read the product label for any specific precautions or warnings.

Additionally, it is important to note that (S)-Methoprene should not be used in pets with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients. It is also essential to avoid using (S)-Methoprene on pets that are pregnant, nursing, or breeding.

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
