Sentinel Spectrum For Dogs

Sentinel Spectrum For Dogs

Sentinel Spectrum incorporates the active components found in Sentinel but also includes a third element, praziquantel. This added ingredient offers enhanced protection by addressing and managing tapeworm infections. Sentinel Spectrum is designed for mature young dogs weighing over two pounds and at least six weeks old.

Manufacturer Of Sentinel Spectrum

Elanco, a global animal health company, manufactures Sentinel Spectrum. However, checking the product packaging or the manufacturer's official website for the most up-to-date information is always a good idea.

Active Ingredient Of Sentinel Spectrum

Sentinel Spectrum contains several active ingredients, providing broad-spectrum protection against dog parasites. These active ingredients are:

  1. Milbemycin Oxime - Helps prevent heartworm disease and controls adult hookwormsroundworms, and whipworms.
  2. Lufenuron - Works to break the flea life cycle by preventing the development of flea eggs into adult fleas.
  3. Praziquantel - Effective in treating and controlling tapeworm infections.

These ingredients protect against heartworms, various intestinal worms, and fleas. Always consult with a veterinarian before starting or changing a pet medication regimen.

How Sentinel Spectrum Works?

Sentinel Spectrum primarily contains milbemycin oxime as an active ingredient. Milbemycin facilitates the movement of chloride, an innate electrolyte, through the cell membranes of certain vulnerable worms, including heartworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. Increasing the chloride levels in these parasites disrupts their nervous system's electrical balance, leading to muscle immobilization and eventual demise.

Another component in Sentinel Spectrum is lufenuron. This ingredient explicitly targets flea eggs, halting their growth and preventing them from hatching. As lufenuron doesn't affect adult fleas, it's commonly paired with other treatments to address existing flea outbreaks.

Sentinel Spectrum also contains praziquantel, offering an additional defense against tapeworms. The exact mechanism by which praziquantel acts on tapeworms remains a mystery. However, it's believed to compromise the worm's outer layer and induce paralysis.

Sentinel Spectrum Directions

Sentinel Spectrum should be given orally once every month. You can administer it with or without food, but providing it alongside a meal enhances its absorption into the dog's system. It's crucial to ensure your dog chews the tablet before swallowing it whole. If the chew is partially consumed, giving a new one is advised.

Missed Dose Of Sentinel Spectrum

If you accidentally skip a dose of Sentinel Spectrum, administer it as soon as you recall. These medications are typically given every 30 days, so maintain a consistent monthly routine. However, if your vet has advised a different dosage pattern and a dose is missed, contact them for further guidance.

Refrain from giving additional or doubled doses.
