Nitenpyram

Common Brand Names

Single Ingredient

Uses Of Nitenpyram

Nitenpyram is an insecticide used primarily to treat flea infestations in pets such as dogs and cats. It is an orally active medication that works by binding to the nerve cells of insects, causing paralysis and death. The animal rapidly metabolizes Nitenpyram, so it is considered safe for pets. As always, it's important to follow the recommended dosage and instructions provided by the manufacturer when using Nitenpyram.

Method Of Application

It comes in oral application supplied as a tablet.

Dosage And Administration

The recommended dosage of Nitenpyram for pets is typically based on the animal's weight. The usual starting dose for dogs and cats is 11.4 mg/kg, which can be administered as a single oral dose. The medication is usually given on an empty stomach, either 30 minutes before a meal or two hours after a meal.

It is important to follow the recommended dosage for the size and weight of your pet when using Nitenpyram, as well as the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Overdose can cause side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, or muscle tremors. It's also important to ensure that Nitenpyram is only given to the animal it is intended for and not to other animals or humans.

It's also important to note that Nitenpyram is not meant to be a long-term solution; it is intended to provide quick relief from flea infestations. Therefore, to prevent future infestations, it's recommended to use flea preventatives such as monthly topicals, shampoos, and sprays.

Possible Side Effects

Nitenpyram is generally considered safe for use in pets when used as directed. However, as with any medication, there are possible side effects.

Common side effects of Nitenpyram in pets may include the following:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Drowsiness or lethargy
  • Tremors or muscle twitching

These side effects are generally mild and temporary and should resolve within a day or two.

More severe side effects, such as seizures or allergic reactions, may occur in rare cases. Therefore, you must contact your veterinarian if you notice any unusual symptoms or if the side effects persist or worsen.

It's important to note that Nitenpyram is intended for pets only and should not be used in humans. If ingested by humans, it can cause severe side effects such as seizures, tremors, breathing difficulties, and even death. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.

Precautions

When using Nitenpyram in pets, it's important to take certain precautions to ensure the safe and effective use of the medication.

  • Always follow the recommended dosage and instructions provided by the manufacturer.
  • Only use Nitenpyram for the animal it is intended for, and not for other animals or humans.
  • Use Nitenpyram on an empty stomach, either 30 minutes before a meal or two hours after a meal.
  • Monitor your pet for any unusual symptoms or side effects, and contact your veterinarian if you notice anything unusual.
  • Keep Nitenpyram out of reach of children and other animals, as it can be toxic if ingested.
  • To prevent future infestations, use Nitenpyram with other flea and tick preventatives, such as monthly topicals, shampoos, and sprays.
  • If you have a pregnant or nursing pet, consult your veterinarian before using Nitenpyram.
  • Store Nitenpyram in a cool, dry place, away from light and heat.

It's also important to consult your veterinarian before using Nitenpyram if your pet has any pre-existing medical conditions or is taking any other medications. Your veterinarian may advise you on additional precautions or adjustments to the dosage based on your pet's needs.

Signs Of Toxicity

Signs of toxicity from Nitenpyram can vary depending on the amount ingested and the individual animal. However, some common signs of toxicity in pets may include the following:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Drowsiness or lethargy
  • Tremors or muscle twitching
  • Seizures
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Allergic reactions such as hives or swelling
  • Unusual behavior or agitation

If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic amount of Nitenpyram, or if you notice any of these signs of toxicity, it's important to seek veterinary care immediately.

Remember that Nitenpyram is intended for pets only and should not be used in humans. If ingested by humans, it can cause severe side effects such as seizures, tremors, breathing difficulties, and even death. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.

It's also important to note that Nitenpyram is not meant to be a long-term solution; it is intended to provide quick relief from flea infestations. Therefore, to prevent future infestations, it's recommended to use a combination of flea and tick preventatives, such as monthly topicals, shampoos, and sprays.

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

After Seresto collars failed to get rid of fleas, I didn't know where to turn. I saw a post on a page I follow (Kentucky Kitty Cats) saying that they use Nexgard Combo for the cats they shelter. I decided to try it and IT WORKS!

Customer photo review of Revolution Plus For Medium Cats 5.6-11 lbs (2.6-5kg)

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
