How To Stop Ticks From Biting Your Cats

Ways to treat ticks in cats

Introduction:

Ticks are a common nuisance for pet owners, particularly for those who own cats. Ticks are tiny, blood-sucking parasites that can carry serious diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Therefore, it's important to protect your cats from tick bites. In this article, we'll discuss ten different ways you can prevent ticks from biting your cats.

  1. Spot-on Treatments: Spot-on treatments are a popular way to prevent tick bites in cats. These treatments are applied to the back of the Cat's neck and are absorbed into the skin, providing long-lasting protection against ticks. Spot-on treatments can be purchased over the counter or from your veterinarian. They are safe and effective, but following the instructions carefully is essential.
  2. Oral Medications: Oral medications are another way to prevent tick bites in cats. These medications are given to the Cat by mouth and kill ticks when they bite the Cat. A veterinarian typically prescribes oral medications and can provide protection for up to twelve weeks.
  3. Shampoos: Tick shampoos are designed to kill ticks on contact. These shampoos are used during a bath and are particularly useful for cats that spend a lot of time outdoors. It's important to choose a safe shampoo for cats and follow the instructions carefully.
  4. Tick Dips: Tick dips are another type of tick treatment that can be used on cats. Dips are applied to the Cat's coat and can protect it for up to two weeks. However, dips are not recommended for cats with sensitive skin or pregnant or nursing cats.
  5. Tick Collars: Tick collars are another way to prevent tick bites in cats. These collars are worn around the Cat's neck and contain chemicals that repel ticks. It's important to choose a collar that is specifically designed for cats and to follow the instructions carefully.
  6. Powders: Tick powders are designed to kill ticks on contact. These powders are applied to the Cat's coat and can protect for up to two weeks. However, powders can be messy and may not be as effective as other types of tick treatments.
  7. Tick Sprays: Tick sprays are designed to repel ticks and can be used on cats. These sprays are applied directly to the Cat's coat and can protect for up to two weeks. However, it's important to choose a spray that is safe for cats and to follow the instructions carefully.
  8. Treat the House and Lawn: Ticks can live in your house and yard, so it's important to treat these areas to prevent tick infestations. This can be done by using tick sprays or by hiring a professional exterminator. It's also important to keep your lawn mowed and to remove any brush or debris where ticks may hide.
  9. Check your Cat (s): It's important to check your Cat (s) regularly for ticks. This can be done by running your hands over your Cat's coat and feeling for any bumps or lumps. If you find a tick, removing it immediately using tweezers or a tick removal tool is important.
  10. Keep your Cat (s) Indoors: The best way to prevent tick bites in cats is to keep them indoors. Indoor cats are less likely to come into contact with ticks and are therefore less likely to be bitten. If you do let your Cat (s) outdoors, it's important to supervise them and to check them regularly for ticks.

Conclusion

Ticks can be a severe problem for cats, but there are many ways to prevent tick bites. Spot-on treatments, oral medications, shampoos, tick dips, tick collars, powders, and tick sprays can all be effective in preventing tick bites in cats. It's also important to treat your house and lawn, check your Cat (s) regularly for ticks, and keep your Cat (s) indoors as much as possible. By taking these steps, you can help keep your cats healthy and free from tick-borne diseases. However, if you suspect your Cat (s) may have been bitten by a tick or are showing any signs of illness, it's important to contact your veterinarian immediately. With proper prevention and care, you can help protect your cats from tick bites and keep them happy and healthy for years to come.

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

After Seresto collars failed to get rid of fleas, I didn't know where to turn. I saw a post on a page I follow (Kentucky Kitty Cats) saying that they use Nexgard Combo for the cats they shelter. I decided to try it and IT WORKS!

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
