Can Seresto Collar For Dogs Be Used On Cats Or Vice Versa?

If you are a pet owner, you know how important it is to protect your furry friend from fleas and ticks. These pesky parasites not only cause discomfort but also transmit diseases. One popular solution is the Seresto collar, which protects dogs and cats and provides long-lasting flea and tick protection. However, can you use a Seresto collar for dogs on cats, or vice versa? In this blog, we will explore the differences between Seresto collars for dogs and cats and answer this important question.

Seresto Collar

Understanding The Seresto Collar

The Seresto collar is a popular flea and ticks treatment option for pets. The collar releases small amounts of two active ingredients, imidacloprid, and flumethrin, to repel and kill fleasticks, and other parasites. In addition, the collar is designed to provide up to eight months of protection, making it a convenient and cost-effective option for pet owners.

Differences Between Seresto Collars For Dogs And Cats

Although the Seresto collar for dogs and cats contains the same active ingredients, they are formulated differently. The Seresto collar for dogs is designed to fit the neck size of a dog, while the Seresto collar for cats is smaller to fit a cat's neck. In addition, the Seresto collar for cats has a breakaway feature that allows the collar to release if it gets caught on something, preventing choking hazards.

Can You Use A Seresto Collar For Dogs On Cats, Or Vice Versa?

It is not recommended to use a Seresto collar for dogs on cats, or vice versa, as the collar is formulated specifically for each species. In addition, the collar's dosage and size differ for dogs and cats, and using the wrong collar could result in an ineffective or even dangerous treatment. For example, using a Seresto collar for dogs on a cat could result in toxicity or skin irritation. Likewise, using a Seresto collar meant for cats on a dog could result in an ineffective treatment due to the collar's small size.

Choosing the Right Flea and Tick Treatment for Your Pet

Choosing the right flea and tick treatment for your pet is crucial to ensure their safety and health. Therefore, it is important to consult your veterinarian to determine the best flea and tick treatment for your pet's age, weight, and health status. Many different types of flea and tick treatments are available, including topical treatments, oral medications, and collars, each with pros and cons.

Seresto Collar Sizes

Seresto Collar For Cats

Seresto Collar for Small Dogs Less than 17lbs (8kg)

Seresto Collar For Large Dogs More than 17lbs (8kg)

Conclusion

The Seresto collar is a popular flea and ticks treatment option for dogs and cats, but using the correct collar for each species is important. Using a Seresto collar for dogs on cats, or vice versa could result in an ineffective or even dangerous treatment. If you are still determining which flea and tick treatment is best for your pet, consult your veterinarian to ensure their safety and health.

Two sweet girlies decided to make our deck their home. Mosquitoes are a big problem where we live and we had to get them protected. This was the best bang for the buck. I’ve ordered from 79Pets several times and while delivery is not fast it is very consistent.

After Seresto collars failed to get rid of fleas, I didn't know where to turn. I saw a post on a page I follow (Kentucky Kitty Cats) saying that they use Nexgard Combo for the cats they shelter. I decided to try it and IT WORKS!

Last year, I made a visit to the vet. I told them that Kattie/cat had ear mites. They gave me an ointment costing $80canadian. I used it up and purchased another bottle. $160. total not including the cost of the vet visit. No results. The ear mites have been there for a long time. Canadian vets have control of what is sold in Pet stores and you cannot purchase off the shelf products not recognized by them. I jumped at the chance to purchase your produce with a recommended 100% effectivity. I was willing to try, but was suspicions. After a month there was still a little scratching but after 6 weeks, the mites are gone and the scratching is gone. Thank you very much for this mite solution. I recommend it heartily. Harry P.S. Do not tell the Canadian vets as they will outlaw your product.
